New Product Design

Supply chain risk

Introduction

This project details how I led design initiatives to introduce a new product offering for the company. BitSight wanted to test a very green market space, where at the time, companies did not have an accessible way to identify the concentration risk of their supply chain network. Through rapid testing and iteration, I produced designs for a product that is still offered today and generated $500k in sales in the first quarter.

User Persona and Problem Statement

The targeted User Persona for this project is a Risk Manager. Their objective is to protect their company and customer’s data… However, they don’t have the visibility into their extended supply chain, so they can not accurately report the scope of the problem. They need a powerful image or visualization that helps communicate where is the biggest concentration risk.

Discovery and Research

I conducted a series of user interviews with the main goal of identifying the key questions users would want to answer regarding their supply chain network. Based on the qualitative data gathered, I white boarded and produced a series of mockups to test and prototype with users.

Design & Iteration

After a series of mockups and design reviews, I worked with the engineering team to rapidly prototype a live environment to demo with Users.

Test

Through series of rapid development and prototying, we were able to test different visualizations with Users to gather quick feedback, specifically on whether or not they could answer the question: Where is my risk concentration?

Final Design and development

After validating w/ Users, we released an MVP into the market.

Impact

This design project was impactful in that we tested a rapid test and development approach, to introduce the product into the market with an MVP at a very fast pace. The result was paying customers ($500k in the first 3-4 months) and a product that is still offered by the company today.
