Reporting feature design

Cyber Security Executive Report

Introduction

I built this reporting feature when BitSight was at its early startup stage. BitSight offers a tool that provides security ratings used by third party vendor risk management, benchmarking cybersecurity performance, underwriting cyber insurance policies & more. As a Product Designer, I worked with team members to build features in a fast pace environment and growing market.

User Persona and Primary Goals

The goal of this feature was to help Users access data to make actionable insights and communicate with the Board and other appropriate stakeholders on the state of their cyber security posture.

The Problem:

It takes me a long time to create reports to present to executive level stakeholders, so they could understand at a high-level our cyber security infrastructure and the potential risks associated.

How might we...

help customers access and build templated reports that is easy to share and communicate with stakeholders.

Discover & Understand

Identify user and business problems

User Research

In this project, we identified a key target Persona which this feature would provide value: Executive level stakeholders. I conducted user research with executives from Fortune 500 companies, gathered qualitative data, and facilitated a UX workshop with my team to assess the data through exercises such as affinity diagramming, resulting in a developed User Persona.

User persona definition

After internal workshops and a series of user interviews, I centered the feature designs around the User Persona and identified problems and needs.

Define the points of views we can construct based on the user and business problems

Key workflow

Based on our user interviews, we defined the key workflow and report types. Below are examples of white boarding sessions and workflow diagrams I built.

Design & Iteration

Explore solutions and test with users

I designed high-fidelity mockups and conducted a series of user tests. The primary goal were to test and validate the the product re-design's new navigation menu (information re-architecture) and basic filtering functionalities to that would help users build the reports they need to address customer issues.

What did we test?

We focused on whether users understood the workflow and how to access the report templates.

Feedback from the field

Below is an example of industry feedback and reviews we receive from the reporting feature that was designed and built.
